Unveiling the World's Largest Purple Star Sapphire: A Priceless Treasure
A rare and extraordinary find has captivated the world! The unveiling of the "Holy Land Star," a massive 3,563-carat purple star sapphire, has sparked awe and curiosity. Valued at an astonishing $300 million (approximately Rp5,060 billion), this gemstone is a true marvel.
But here's where it gets controversial... According to gem consultant Ashan Amarasinghe, this stunning round-shaped gem is the largest natural purple star sapphire ever documented. He estimates its value to be between $300 million and $400 million (Rp5,060 billion to Rp6,060 billion), as assessed by international appraisers.
"It is the largest purple star sapphire of its kind," Amarasinghe told the media. "The asterism phenomenon it displays, with six distinct rays, is exceptional compared to all other stones."
Asterism, as defined by Britannica, refers to the pattern or shape formed by a group of stars that can be seen with the naked eye. In this case, the Holy Land Star's asterism is a remarkable feature.
The polished gem is owned by the Holy Land Star Team, who have chosen to remain anonymous for security reasons. One of the owners revealed that the stone was discovered in a remote gem mine near Rathnapura, the "Gem City" of Sri Lanka, in 2023. It was purchased alongside other gems that same year, and it was only later that the owners realized its uniqueness.
Sri Lankan sapphires are renowned for their exceptional characteristics, including their vibrant colors, clarity, and unique luster. The Holy Land Star certainly lives up to this reputation.
And this is the part most people miss... The story behind this precious gem is just as fascinating as the gem itself. It took years for the owners to recognize its true value, and they obtained certifications from two laboratories after acquiring it.
So, what do you think? Is the Holy Land Star a priceless treasure or just another expensive gemstone? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below! We'd love to hear your perspective on this controversial topic.
