Droitwich's Blue Giraffe Nursery Receives One-Star Hygiene Rating: A Response
A recent one-star hygiene rating has sparked concern for Droitwich's Blue Giraffe Nursery, but the nursery remains confident in its ability to improve. The rating, which came after an inspection in December 2025, highlighted a 'paperwork technicality' as the primary issue. Despite this setback, the nursery's spokesperson emphasizes that the inspection itself revealed 'very good' hygienic handling and food, as well as 'satisfactory' cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.
The one-star rating was attributed to the nursery's food safety management, which, while adequate, fell short of the comprehensive Safer Food Better Business pack. This pack is a comprehensive system designed to ensure food safety, and its absence led to the inspector's limited rating. However, the nursery has since adopted the full Safer Food Better Business pack and is seeking a re-rating from the council, confident that this change will significantly enhance their hygiene rating.
Prior to this incident, Blue Giraffe Nursery consistently maintained a five-star rating, showcasing their commitment to food safety. The spokesperson also provided insight into the food hygiene rating inspections, explaining that they cover three key areas: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety. These inspections are crucial in ensuring that food served is safe and that staff are adequately trained in food safety.
Despite the setback, the nursery remains optimistic and is taking proactive steps to address the issues. The public is encouraged to stay informed and support the nursery's efforts to improve its hygiene standards.
